My Desk ... In Defense of Organization

The paper-clipped stacks are current projects that will get attention today. The open space ... is open space.

I hate you.

Well, I'm not too worried because if you ever scheduled an appointment to come kill me, chances are you'd lose the appointment book in the piles on your desk :)

AHHHH, but I know people. ;-) And you KNOW I know people.

Well now you're just freaking me out. The desktop picture on both my computers is a picture of the woods.

Melanie,

Uhhhhhhh ... a little weirded out.

What else ya got?

Okay, nice 'puter, but y'know, that organizational principle you got going on indicates some sort of sick mind or something.

Where's the keyboard?

Richmond,

Ha ha! Thought you caught me cleaning on the sly, huh? It's a wireless keyboard and mouse on a pull-out tray underneath the main desktop.

Mark,

It does make me laugh. For one thing, no one who knew me growing up would EVER accuse me of being organized. But when you don't have a lot of space, it's either get organized or get buried. And you're not the first person to accuse me of a sick mind.

Melanie,

Sometimes I change my desktop to a picture of a giant tomato?

How do you like the wireless keyboard & mouse? I'm tempted.

True story, I was doing an article recently about IT for podiatrists and one of the consultants said he got a call from a doctors office, all in a panic, they said their whole system was going slow. Finally he asked them if they'd replaced the batteries in their wireless keyboard & mouse. Voila! Problem solved.

Mark,

Hmm. Well, I do like the lack of wires. It's nice. But at first I truly hated the key action on the keyboard. I like the big, springy keys, not these little flat things. And there's no built-in number pad, which is annoying when you have any math to do. I'd say it took me a solid 10 days to get used to this keyboard.

As for the mouse, again no wires is nice. But it burns through batteries surprisingly fast and it has a weird swipe-action that I'm not used to. It automatically scrolls documents sideways if your finger is resting on the top of the mouse. Perhaps you can turn this off, but I haven't figured out how yet.

You know, though, despite my kvetching, I'd probably still get another wireless keyboard and mouse given the opportunity. No wires is really pretty nice. And much cleaner.

Show what's directly behind or next to this lovely, clean desk. I dare you!

I concede that your work area is a clean space, but it could only be described as the eye of the hurricane. A mere five feet to the right is a stack of old manuscripts and completed projects, covered in dust bunnies. Whatever is not in your immediate focus is dead to you.

Personally, I think your work space speaks mostly to your ability to compartmentalize. You focus on one area very well. Not a criticism, just an observation ..... :)

^^^ Ha!

I have that mouse. The side-scrolling is awesome for design, but not much else, imo.

I don't ever have a tomato on my desktop, thank god. Just a squash.

(I'm kidding)

*snickering* and then *giggling*

You fooled all of us! Here we thought you were all organized. The eye of the hurricane, huh?

My office is my laptop bag. Or my laptop on my belly in bed. Or on a TV tray in the camper. My desktop is grapes and cherry blossoms. No tomatoes.

Natasha,

Ignore her. She's talking crazy talk ... I sometimes forget to lock the attic, and then next thing I know she's loose in the house, eating all my pretzel sticks and posting crazy things to the Internet.
