I'm pretty excited, though. First off, I love growing tomatoes. And second, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel will be promoting my tomato blog in the newspaper and on their website. I've been writing articles for the Sun-Sentinel for about 10 years, and I thought it was really cool of my editor to make this offer. Now I only hope something doesn't go wrong this season ...
So, without further ado:

I noticed this yesterday (sorry, i don't grow tomatoes and I'm one of those odd folks who doesn't like eating them, although I'm fine with tomato-based sauces, etc). I about a year or so behind on my Smithsonian Magazine reading, but I just read an article about tomatoes in it that was pretty interesting. Florida gets some grief for their tomatoes in it, by the way.
Yeah, the Florida tomato industry is not a kind, happy place. No doubt about it. I've heard the working conditions on the farms described as "slavelike." But there's a reason that all those big tomato farms are down here. We can grow amazing fruit. So, maybe, by growing my own tomatoes, I'm doing my part for social justice. How do you like that rationalization?
I gather part of the rationale in Florida is they've bred them for size and travel (rather than taste).
Hey, go for it, man.
Attack of the killer tomatoes! Run! Run!
Anon,
I killed the killer tomato :)
